Jesse in Malawi

< Back to News
In Phalombe, Malawi, 14 year old Jesse received a Christmas Shoebox from Ireland that completely transformed her desperate situation.

“This is first time for me to see someone in a far country remembering me with such an excellent gift”

In an area of extreme poverty, Jesse’s family had the least. She was bullied at school because she couldn’t even afford a pen and paper to take part in the lessons. Without any resources, she had to leave school.

As a young teen it was her prayer that she would one day have her own writing materials  and go back to school.

The day the Christmas Shoeboxes arrived changed Jesses’s life.

In her shoebox she found enough copy books and pencils to last her for a school year! She could now return to school and complete her education! An education will help Jesse to break the cycle of poverty in her family!

More shockingly, at 14, Jesse had never had a pair of shoes. But inside that shoebox was a simple pair of canvas pumps that fit her perfectly!
People in her community admired her for weeks afterwards, asking her where she got such expensive shoes!
Her response?

“I always told them that someone in IRELAND had remembered me. There are people who love others and these are people from Ireland through Team Hope”
