This is Jenayta and her Dad. Jenayta is 7 years old and has 4 younger sisters. The family live in a one room shack in a village outside Gjakova, Kosovo.
Surrounded by his girls, Jenayta has a very happy father! But he has not been able to find work for many years. To feed his family he chops wood and sells it. Life is hard but this family is full of love. He told us:
“ Thank you for coming to visit our home and making our Christmas so special. We hope that you all have a special Christmas with your families”
The girls all loved opening their shoeboxes but Jenayta’s Shoebox was special. Through our work with Ireland AM and TV3 we followed this box to Jenayta in Kosovo all the way from Cynthia in Co Westmeath.
Cynthia is from Eastern Europe and came to live in Ireland many years ago. As a child, she received a shoebox. Now she is a volunteer with the Mullingar Shoebox Team and together with her son, sends shoeboxes from Ireland.
Jenayta’s mum loved the soap in Jenayta’s shoebox and when we asked Jenayta what she liked she said ‘how can I choose’?! She loved everything! She examined everything so carefully, showing each item to her mum and dad.
Team Hope delivered Christmas shoeboxes to 28,600 children, like Jenayta, living in poverty in Kosovo last year!
We did this through our partners who work year round with families like Jenayta and her Dad’s. To read more click here or to help us to support our partners donate below.
Happy Father’s Day from Team Hope to all of you. Let’s celebrate all of the Daddies living their best lives for their little (and not so little!) ones!
