Albania

TEAM HOPE has developed relationships with two local partners in Albania, who are working with children in real need and with orphans. In Communist times, Albania was one of the most closed countries, but now it’s open and starting to grow. However, the legacy of harder times remains and there are still high levels of poverty, particularly outside of the urban areas.

Through after school clubs our partners are reaching out to many children.

Team Hope is focused through our projects and programmes to create a system of Self-sufficiency with all our in-country partners. We do this through an Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) method. Helping people to utilise whatever skills or assets they have to create new opportunities.

TEAM HOPE is in discussion with our Albanian partners about feeding and orphan care projects, in the villages surrounding the port city of Durres, and in the mountainous area of Tropoje, close to the Kosovan border. Tropoje is at the heart of an area where the Albanian culture of ‘blood revenge’ still remains, leaving a large number of orphans.

We sent a ‘trial load’ of Christmas Shoebox gifts into Albania in Christmas 2012, much to the delight of the children who had never had anything like that before! 2013 saw our first full container of shoeboxes going to Albania.

Team Hope has been sending Christmas Shoebox gifts to the children of Albania for many years now, we continue to reach those children who most need to feel loved and cared about. As one of the poorest countries in Eastern Europe, the children are hugely impacted by the generosity of the people all across Ireland.

Take a look at our 90 second video that has been viewed by over 50 million people worldwide.
